ARTEMIS
Artemis (Roman name Diana) was the virgin goddess of the hunt. She helped women in childbirth but her arrows also brought sudden death.
Artemis and Apollo were the children of Zeus and Leto. Artemis was born first, and helped her mother deliver Apollo.
The queen of Thebes, Niobe, said that she was better than Leto because she had many children, whereas Leto only had two. Artemis and Apollo then both killed all of Niobe's children with arrows. Niobe was devastated and cried and was then turned into stone.
Apollo realised that Artemis was spending a lot of time hunting with the giant Orion, and he decided to stop their relationship. He told Artemis that she had to prove her skill by shooting at an object floating out at sea. Her shot was perfect but the target turned out to be the head of Orion.
Artemis is generally described as a young girl dressed in buckskins, carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows. She is usually joined by creatures such as stags or she-bear.

Aphrodite (Roman name Venus) was the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. She was also a protecter of sailors.
The poet Hesiod said that Aphrodite was born from sea-foam. Although another poet, Homer, said that she was the daughter of Zeus and Dione.
The Trojan prince Paris was asked to choose which one of the three Olympian goddesses was the most beautiful, he chose Aphrodite instead of Hera and Athena. The other two had hoped to bribe him with power and victory in battle, but Aphrodite offered the love of the most beautiful woman in the world.
This was Helen of Sparta, who became famous as Helen of Troy when Paris later ran away with her. In Trojan War, Hera and Athena were enemies of Troy while Aphrodite was devoted to Paris and the Trojans.

Aphrodite is the goddess of Love and Beauty. She was apparently born when Cronus cut off Uranus’ genitals and threw them into the sea, and from the aphros raised Aphrodite. Because of Aphrodites divine beauty the other gods feared that jealousy would interrupt the peace among them and lead to war and hatred, so Zeus married her to Hephasstus. She was not happy that she was married to Hephasstus but Hephasstus made her Jewels and gold which when she wore it all the gods found her even more irresistible so she had many immortal and mortal lovers. She is always accompanied by the Graces who are the personifications of charm and beauty in nature and in human life. Pan was an ugly satyr with a long beard, sharp ears, goat legs and horns. Almost no one thought pan was useful, not even his mother, who ran away horrified by how ugly her son was when she saw her son for the first time.
No matter how many people thought he was useless, he was a kind hearted god. Many times he was known to be holding a pipe, delighting the gods with his divine melodies, his sacred tree is called the Pine tree. He is the god of shepherds, flocks, goats, Mountain Wilds, hunting and rustic music. The symbol of Pan is Pan Pipes. When Athena was older she and Poseidon (her uncle) wanted a certain city and so they decided to each give the city a gift. Poseidon gave the city a spring but was salty and that was no use to them, and then Athena gave them an olive tree so they could have food and oil. So from then on they named the city Athens. Athena’s companion was the goddess of victory, named Nike.

Dionysus.
Dionysus also known as the Bacchus for wine and intoxication. Dionysus was born by Zeus and a mortal woman called Semele. When Semele died by Zeus’s bolt, Dionysus was still inside Semele and then Zeus ate Dionysus and developed him from his thigh and soon he gave Dionysus to some infants to raise him. Soon when he was old enough and grew quite a bit Zeus came over and brought him back to mount Olympus.

Hera was born by the titans of Cronus and Rhea. She was one of the three sisters of Zeus and later on became his wife.

Achilles was part of the Achaean force in the Trojan War. Agamemnon leads the Achaeans to Troy to win back Helen for his brother Menelaus. Agamemnon antagonizes Achilles, and so Achilles sits out the fighting. At long last, revenge motivates Achilles to join the fray after his friend Patroclus is killed by Hectors, the greatest of the Trojans. An enraged Achilles kills Hector and then dis-honours the body by dragging it around tied to the back of a chariot for 9 days. The gods keep the corpse miraculously sound during this time. Then the father of Hector, King Priam of Troy, appealing to the better nature of Achilles, persuades him to return Hector's corpse to his family in Troy for proper funeral rites. Achilles is the son of the mortal Peleus and the nymph Thetis. Thetis tried to make her son immortal, in some accounts, by dipping him into the River Styx, while holding him by his left ankle. His heel was therefore the only portion of Achilles place capable of killing Achilles.

Gods were highly worshipped in Greece, and had many festivals and things named or made to worship them. The gods family tree is very complicated, in the gods minds they did not just have to marry someone else who is not blood related, they could marry someone with the opposite gender, mother, father, brother, sister and basically anyone even if full blood related. The Greek gods were the feared and loved rulers of Greek and everything they did.
The gods only partially lived in the human world because they only lived through things like statues. They were brought to life by living things. People like priest brought the god to life which is why in Greece that priests are so highly religiously respected. It was known in Greece that for every city in Greece was home to at least one god or goddess. The gods in the town could live in their statues or shrines that were held for them. The wealth of the god was based on the wealth or the city so if the city or town is rich so is the god.
The statues of the god were treated just like living humans. They were washed, dresses and given food and water so that the god remained healthy and happy with the town. If the god in the town was highly wealthy it was not uncommon for people to sail their boats over the Nile to come and pay their blessing.
Religion was important to the ancient Greeks. This was because they believed that it would make their lives better while they were alive. They believed that the gods would take care of them when they were dead also.
The Ancient Greeks believed in many different gods and goddesses and the Greeks believed that they controls everything in their lives and in the environment.
There was a different god for everything in life. It was important to impress the gods. Happy gods would help you, but unhappy gods would punish you. There would be special places in the Greeks homes where they could pray to the gods. There was also public shines where people could leave present and pray.
Zeus was the ruler of the gods. His symbol was the thunderbolt.
The Ancient Greeks believed that all of the gods came from Gaia (which is the earth) and Uranos (which is the sky).
